A fabric made of a fine mesh is stretched tightly over a frame. The artist then blocks out the portions of the screen that they want to prevent ink from passing through. They drag ink across the screen with a squeegee, pushing through the unblocked mesh and onto the surface of the paper on the other side. This process can be repeated with different screens and colors to build up an image on the paper layer by layer.
